SPARK IT

The Spark IT centre is a project set up by the Leigh Technology Academy’s Vendor ICT department in the neighbouring town of Swanscombe, where adults (16+) from the local community come to improve their skills on current ICT systems and technologies. The project has run since February 2007 and has been a great success, delivering over one hundred industry recognised qualifications in that time, free of charge to members of the local community. The focus of the project is to “up skill” the individuals in ICT areas so that they are more employable in their future careers, as in the landscape of employment today, there is a critical need for ICT skills from all areas of staffing.

The Spark IT centre caters for all ranges of people from unemployed single parents to people in full time work. The staff at the centre will always try to work around the student to accommodate for their other activities and even extend working hours to cater for evening classes where applicable.

Whether you are already in work and wanting to increase your skill set, wanting to start a career in ICT or even assist yourself on the employment ladder, we offer a wide range of courses that suit your availability, existing skill set and pace. At the Spark IT centre, there are also close ties with employment agencies. This means that if you seek it, the Spark IT centre can gain you employment as well as qualifications, all free of charge. Since the conception of the centre, over twenty five students have gained qualifications with us and are also now in full or part time employment as a result of the Spark IT centre.
