The Academy has just been granted the Design Mark Award.
This award is in recognition for the excellence in design education that the students receive here at The Academy. This is very prestigious and only seven other secondary schools across the country have been awarded it in the last three years.
Some information from the Design Mark Website:
The Design Mark is a quality standards framework developed jointly by the DCSF, The Design Council and the Design & Technology Association. It is intended as an aspirational badge awarded to primary and secondary schools that demonstrate excellence in their teaching of design.The Design Mark aims to identify and reward primary and secondary schools that are delivering high quality design education to their pupils. The outcomes of the Design Mark are:
- To promote higher standards in the quality of design education
- To help schools and pupils better understand the wider role of design in society
- For schools to develop closer links with professional design practice
- To raise the status of design in schools and local communities
- To provide schools with a framework to help them evaluate and self-review standards and practice.
