PHYSICAL EDUCATION & DANCE
"Exercise activates your brain and gives you energy for everything else, the energy to be enthusiastic about all your work"
Darcy Bussell, The Royal Ballet
The key aims of the Learning Area are to ensure students enjoy and understand the principles of physical activity and have a positive understanding of the importance of exercise in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Our facilities are second to none. Indoor areas include a sports hall with sprung floor, fitness suite, dance studio and PE theory room. Our extensive fields include 6 all weather 5 a side football pitches, 3 full size football pitches, 2 rugby pitches an athletics track and netball courts.
The Learning Area also has excellent links within the community. Portsmouth and England footballer Glen Johnson, an ex student, has his soccer school based on site. All home cricket matches are played at Hesketh Park and Dartford CC assist with the running of our teams. We also work alongside Telstars and Kent netball teams, Kent Ravens and Ravenettes, Sutton Bowman Archery, Sutton at Hone gymnastics club and Wasted Grace Dance company.
Visits to sporting events are an integral part of a student’s education. We regularly take students to watch international fixtures in cricket, rugby, netball and football. Dance students visit leading contemporary dance theatres and attend the Move It dance exhibition held annually in London. GCSE and A Level students have annual trips to revision conferences in London run by chief examiners to help prepare them for their exams.
Finally, an exciting trip takes place on 2nd April as 30 of our students fly out to Antigua on a sport and cultural tour arranged by former West Indies captain Richie Richardson. The students will play 2 cricket and 2 football fixtures against local opposition in Antigua’s national stadium and the tour will be a permanent bi-annual event for students in Yr 10 and 11.
