KS 5 - PRODUCT DESIGN

The AQA Product Design course offers an opportunity to gain personal experience through working with a variety of resistant materials. The practical problem solving processes within this course encourages independent learning, creativity and innovation.

The two year course requires completion of a design and manufacture portfolio. ICT based technical drawing features heavily in all forms of design at this level. Students also complete a product case study and have external written examinations. In Year 12, the course in Product Design 3D develops the necessary skills and understanding for successful completion of the second year. Year 13 offers scope for specialization.

Year 12: AS

• Unit 1 - Written Paper - 50% of the total AS marks (25% of the total A Level marks)
• Unit 2 - Coursework - 50% of the total AS marks (25% of the total A Level marks)

Year 13: A2

• Unit 3 - Major Coursework Project - Approx 50 hours taught and private study time - (25% of the total A Level marks)
• Unit 4 - External Written Examination - 3 hours duration - (25% of the total A Level marks)

• A3 Folder, A3 Sketchbook, planner, coloured pencils, drawing pencils, pens, eraser, metric ruler
