

KS 5 - APPLIED SCIENCE
The OCR GCE in Applied Science is one of a new family of vocationally focused GCEs. It offers choice and allows students to tailor the course to meet their skills, interests and ambitions.
GCE in Applied Science is available as a single award AS GCE or a single award full GCE. Students taking single award study 3 units a year in 3 lessons a week.
Year 12 AS
Students taking the AS single award will study the following units:
- Unit 1: Science at Work (Coursework)
- Unit 2: Analysis at Work (Courework)
- Unit 3: Monitoring the Activity of the Human Body (Exam)
Year 13 A2
Students taking the A2 single award will study the following units:
- Unit 8: Investigating the Scientist’s Work (Coursework)
- Unit 9: Sampling, Testing and Processing (Exam)
- Unit 10: Synthesising Organic Chemicals (Coursework)
All students study Unit 8, which gives them the opportunity to carry out an individual investigation. A large number of students this year are carrying out ecology investigations on the Isle of Wight.
