

KS 5 - BIOLOGY
The OCR Biology Couse is divided into Biological topics, each containing different key concepts of Biology. Once these are developed applications are considered.
Year 12 AS
- F211 - Cells, Exchange and Transport - 1 hour written exam. AS 30%, A2 15%
- F212 - Molecules, Biodiversity, food and health - Assessed by a 1.75 hour written examination. 50% of the total AS marks, 25% of A2.
- F213 - Practical Skills in Biology 1 - Assessed by internal coursework. 20% of the total AS marks, 10% of A2.
Year 13 A2
- F214 - Communications, Homeostasis and Energy - Assessment by a 1 hour written exam, 15% of the total Advanced GCE marks.
- F215 - Control, Genomes and Environment - Assessed by a 1.75 hour written examination, 25% of the total Advanced GCE marks.
- F216 - Practical skills in Biology 2 - Assessed internally by coursework, 10% of the total Advanced GCE marks.
Assessment
Assessment is via examination with part of unit 5 being coursework. The A2 examinations are progressively more synoptic requiring students to draw on their knowledge from AS/A2 Biology. Coursework is undertaken on a fieldtrip to a field studies centre on the Isle of Wight.
