KS 4 - HISTORY



Students study the AQA Schools History Project. The study of History gives students a sense of the past and an awareness of the development of different values and societies. It equips students with the key skills needed for lifelong learning and the workplace. Students who study History acquire strong analytical, research and communication skills. They tend to be reflective and good at problem solving.

During Years 9-11, the following topics are covered:

  • Russian Revolution
  • Boom and Bust in the USA (1918-1933)
  • Britain during the Depression
  • Britain at War (Second World War)
  • Germany 1918-45
  • History of Medicine
  • The Troubles in Northern Ireland
  • Local study of Lullingstone Roman Villa

The course is examined by two examinations (75%) - one of which is the History of Medicine, while the other is the Germany Paper. The coursework is worth 25% and consists of two pieces – Source analysis of the Troubles in Northern Ireland and interpretations of Bloody Sunday and an investigation of Lullingstone Roman Villa.
