KS 4 - GEOGRAPHY
Geography is everywhere and in everything. It is important for young people to appreciate their impact, both positive and negative, on the environment and Geography provides them with the knowledge and tools to do this. It also allows them to interpret their surroundings and the landscape in which they live everyday. Students gain an understanding of the local, national and global issues and how these affect them and how their decisions impact on others.
During Years 9-11, the following topics are covered:
- People and Places
- Water, Landforms and People
- Work, Development and People
- Climate, the environment and People
The course is examined by two examinations (75%) – one which is knowledge based and the second is a decision making exercise. Two pieces of coursework (2012 Olympics and Herne Bay) account for the remaining 25% of the grade.
