KS 4 - APPLIED ART AND DESIGN
This course introduces students to the vocational aspects of Art and Design through work-related learning. Students respond to real briefs and produce work to a professional standard which meets the needs of external clients.
The course is divided into three units.
- Units 1 and 2 are based on “2D and 3D Visual Language”, ”Materials, Techniques and Technology”. Students learn what is meant by “visual language” and experiment with a range of techniques and applications of different media. They explore how artists, craftspeople and designers use visual language to communicate their ideas.
- Unit 3 “Working to a Brief” gives students experience of working on project briefs. Students learn how to plan and produce work to a high standard and the ultimate aim is to provide a professional brief which meets a client’s needs.
Coursework is assessed through portfolios of work and the student’s response to the externally set brief.
