

KS 3 - TEXTILES
The Textiles course at Key Stage 3 gives students opportunities to:
- Communicate design proposals
- Select and use tools, equipment and processes, including CAD/CAM to shape and form materials safely and accurately and finish them appropriately
- Explore the properties of a range of contrasting materials from a range of fabrics
- Analyse products and judge the quality of other people's products
Students complete one project in Year 7 and one in Year 8 that incorporate Textiles Technology:
- Hand Puppet (Year 7)
- Fabric pencil case (Year 8)
Students are set the task of designing and making, make choices about a product or aspects of its design. They observe, explore and experience a range of materials and tools.
Students can:
- practice a range of cutting, joining, shaping and forming processes
- practice a variety of decorative techniques
- use natural and manmade fabrics
- investigate processes which include embroidery, batik and dye sublimation
- practice hand stitching and machining techniques
- test and evaluate their product
Pupils work on a DMA (Design and Make Assignment), bringing together what they have learned to make a product which is fit for the purpose.
