KS 3 - PHYSICAL EDUCATION

The Physical Education Learning Area prides itself on its versatile curriculum which inspires students to participate in a wide range of sports.

Main aims of Key Stage 3 Physical Education:

  • To ensure all students develop their interest in PE and achieve their full potential in a wide range of physical activities.
  • To ensure all students enjoy a positive experience, building their self-esteem and self-confidence in a safe but challenging environment.
  • To ensure students develop a knowledge of sporting rules, skills and tactics and have the opportunity to participate in a variety of sporting competitions.

During the 2011-12 academic year, the Key Stage 3 students will have the opportunity to participate in the following sports:

  • Archery

Students have 2 x 80 minute lessons each week and these can be either mixed or single sex lessons.

Students have the opportunity to participate in a range of extra curricular activities including participation in local and national competitions. Recent Key Stage 3 successes include winning the local Gravesham and Dartford Football Cup Finals, Dartford District Athletics and the U13 girls' rugby team finishing runners up in the Under 13 Rugby League National competition.

As well as developing skills, fitness and confidence, students are taught to become 'critical performers'. Staff encourage a variety of different roles to be adopted during lessons such as an official, coach or organiser. Students are given an 'attitude to learning' and 'attainment' grade in accordance with national curriculum level descriptors at the end of each module.

PE Equipment

Students must wear the The Leigh Technology Academy PE kit - a T-shirt in their respective College colour, a rugby shirt (optional), black shorts and Academy tracksuit. Football boots or appropriate outdoor trainers are required for a number of PE lessons that take place on the playing fields
