

KS 3 - GRAPHICS
The Graphics course at Key Stage 3 gives students opportunities to:
- Communicate design proposals through graphical communication
- Introduce graphical skills through a range of media
- Select from a range of 2 dimensional or 3 dimensional views
- Explore rendering techniques
- Analyse products and judge their aesthetic qualities
Students complete one project in year 7 and are expected to demonstrate graphical skills throughout their work in year 8.
In Year 7, students are set the task of designing and making various packaging products, exploring shapes, features and aesthetics. Students investigate familiar products and explore graphical materials. They may explore different graphical views including isometric, orthographic, perspective and exploded.
They can:
- practice a range of conventional drawing styles and views
- practice a variety of rendering techniques
- use paper and cardboard to model
- use basic CAD in 2D
- use CAM to manufacture
- test and evaluate their product
Students work on a DMA (Design and Make Assignment), bringing together what they have learned to make a product which is fit for purpose.
